Pit fire injures 6 people

Six people were injured when fire erupted around the No. 92 Chevrolet of Jimmie Johnson during a green-flag pit stop on Lap 126 of Saturday's All Pro 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

Johnson had pulled his car into the pit stall and his team started changing tires and refueling, when the fuel ignited. The fire was quickly extinguished by track personnel.

Four of the six injured were members of Johnson's crew. Crewman Dave Rang was taken to University Hospital where he was treated for inhaling fire retardant chemicals. In addition, gas man Bryan Smith was treated at the speedway's infield care center for superficial first- and second-degree burns on his hands and face. He returned to work before the race ended.

The remaining four were all treated for inhaling fire retardant chemicals and released from the infield care center. They were Smith's wife, Deanna; crewman Jonathan Sherman; Buddy Parks, a member of driver Hank Parker Jr.'s team; and track firefighter Rick Jones.

Thank goodness no one was seriously injured. I understand it was just "one of those things", but it still was pretty scary when watching it! :(
