Hi.

I am new to the site and am hoping to have fun talking with other nascar fans such as myself. As you can tell by my username I am a Jeff Gordon fan and I think that he will be the man to beat this year. Please don't hate me because I like Gordon I also root for Dale Jr. as well but when I started watching racing about 5 years ago my Friends told me to pick an number ans that driver would be the driver i rooted for so off the top of my head i picked 24 and the rest is history. I think that both of the drivers are very good at what they do but I just like gordon a little more than Dale Jr. I just dont wnat people saying oh your for Dale because of his father.

Thanks

Hi and welcome. Just join in. We all have our favorites, I don't care for Jeff, and I route for Junior. I was a dale sr fan and Terry Labonte and Neil Bonnett fan. Mainly I don't wish any harm to come to any driver. Feel free to jump in anytime, and contrary to everyone else rumor doesn't bite.

I have enjoyed following Jeff Gordons career before he was in NASCAR. I used to watch a lot of Sprint Car/Midget racing on the Satellite TV back then. (Big 10 foot dishes) In fact, I'd never miss ESPN's Thusday Night Thunder! I remember watching Jeff and some others like Jack Hewitt, The Kinsers, Tony Stewart and my favorite - Rich Vogler. Heck..you might even see Kenny Schrader or Mel Kenyon now and then.

In the early summer (I think) of 1992, I took my girlfriend (now my wife) to her first Nascar race at Watkins Glen. It was only a Busch race, but myself and a bunch of friends camped inside the track all weekend. It was always a blast! (and if anyones ever camped inside a track during a race, you know what I mean!) I spent that entire weekend trying to "educate" my new girlfriend about Stock Car Racing in general, Nascar, and which drivers were who and what. After all....if she don't like racin' .......she gotta go!

I told her about one specific younger driver that I liked and had followed for a few years, and how he had "tore-it-up" in the USAC series. I also told her that I wanted to find a hat or shirt with his name or car on it.

That weekend we looked everywhere in just about every souvenier trailer, tent, booth, hut, or any place that sold souveniers - but we couldn't find anything with Jeff Gordons name on it. I had given up. But..as I was looking at a FORD souvenier trailer, I saw a Bill Davis Baby Ruth Racing hat. It didn't have Jeff's name or number on it, but it was the closest thing I could find..so I bought it. I still have that darn hat....as ratty as it is.

Later, near the end of that year Jeff landed a NASCAR Winston Cup Ride and got all kinds of flack. Rick Hendrick sure raised a few eyebrows. Almost everyone said it was "crazy", a "Huge Mistake", "What is Hendrick thinking". Yadda yadda yadda.

Not me...I really believed JG would have success in the Winston Cup division. In fact, I think Benny Parsons picked Jeff to win one of the 125's during Daytona's Speed Weeks. Benny was the only person besides myself that I had heard support JG back in the beginning.

In 1994 my girlfriend bought me tickets to the Coca-Cola 600 for my birthday, we drove down to North Carolina and spent most of the weekend at Wilmington Beach, then headed to Charlotte for the race. We had been so busy that we didn't even know who had gotten the pole for the race, but were happy to learn that Jeff had won the pole.

Sunburnt and somewhat hungover, we sat in the stands for what seemed like an eternity.....it was a long race. But we enjoyed ourselves as much as we could. Finally, when the race was over...Jeff Gordon had gotten his first victory. If I remember right he only took two tires on his last pit stop and snookered everybody. There wasn't one fan booing. EVERYONE was cheering for the young kid named Jeff Gordon. Again....no one was booing!

Funny how things have changed over the last 15 years or so.

Auto Racing is funny......the more you win - the more people hate you. It never made any sense to me. But that's why I like racing. It's different!

Pretty soon....everyone's gonna hate Dale Jr. (just wait)

Yellow Toad,

Alot of people already hate Jr. And that's been going on awhile. Some hate him cause of his father, some cause of his success (or that Nascar favors him), etc.
