NBC should have been called the commercial network. Seemed like it went 5 laps, commercials, 5 laps, commercials. And how did ya'll like the green screen a couple of times during the night and the loss of audio? Thank goodness it was them, thought the TV went plotz.
It was very poor in my opinion. Granted, this was the first race and all but none of the announcers worked well, (and the fact I just don't care for Benny doesn't help. Yeah, I really missed 'man oh man. ). As for Bill Weber, is there anyone else there that wanted to slap him? His Victory Lane interview was terrible. Asking Jr., 'did you cry?' What kind of question is that?
I did almost tear up when Chocolate came running out to hug Jr., after he won. That was a priceless moment.
As for Tony. He must be on Nascar's *#$( list. It was clear, okay clear to me, that he was forced down by Benson. What was he supposed to do? Slow down and cause another wreck? Sure, Nastycar is that what you want? I read where he was relegated from 6th to 26. And that he slapped a tape recorder of one reporter out of his hand. Haven't people learned by now they shouldn't go near him when he's ticked? ;););) Of course Nascar is always right. Har de har har har. And they said he will have penalties, but I don't think it's call for a suspension like some people are suggesting. Didn't the announcers say Bobby Labonte did the same thing? He didn't come in either. And there was a car at the beginning of the race that also went under the yellow, no penalty for him either. It was either Skinner or Gordon. A blue car but from that angle you couldn't tell.
And now people are saying the Gibbs' cars shouldn't have stroked for the whole race. Hmmmmm, let me see. DJ does it at Dega to stay out of the way of 'the big one,' and it's okay. Marlin goes back because his car isn't handling right so he can avoid the big one too, and I would imagine other cars did the same thing. But since it involved Tony, and his teammate it's wrong. Uh huh.
Dale Sr., was right; Terry was right; alot of drivers are right. You just can't pass at this track anymore.
And if this is an example of NBC/TNT's coverage for the rest of the year, it doesn't bode well. Good thing the ASA is on today.

Well folks here's my take on the coverage.
I went to bed with 100 laps left of the race, that was at 9:30. I hope the anouncers get better or get better anouncers. To many commercials not enought racing and what racing the did have between commerical was boring as !!!!.
The only bright spot was hearing that Junior won the race.

OH BOY!
too too too many commercials......purely ticked me off to no end.
and if I had to endure that Britany Spears Pepsi commercial one more dang time......
I do understand it was the 'PEPSI' 400....but c'mon.....that is just a little much don't ya think?!?
and then....the broadcast disruptions...the green screen.........Oh my!
they messed it up so badly that they had to use MRN radio for the sound.....I can't believe it went so badly.
Roo..I agree.
at first I thought it was clearly Tony trying to gain position but after seeing it from another angle....he was clearly trying to move over out of the way of Benson who was squeezing him down.
What they are saying is that if he hadn't been trying to get around Benson when there clearly wasn't enough room he wouldn't have gotten squeezed out......But I do think that before Benson started to move down.....Tony had plenty of room.
Joe Gibbs was rightfully ticked too.
You could see how angry he was when talking to the Nascar official.
I do hope it gets better next week...or a whole lot of people are not gonna be happy one bit.

Fordlady,
Don't get me started on Evil Knevil errrrr Britney Spears Pepsi commercial. Last night was the first night I saw the long version, ugh. The shorter version is just as annoying (and what the heck is she saying. I say saying cause she can't sing! :o  )
Did you get aload of that guy holding the sign that said NBC, Nascar's best coverage? Probably a plant. ;););)

And we all thought michael jackson pepsi commericals were bad or some of us did anyone. At least we tell what he was suppose to be singing.

I disagree that the race was boring...I found it entertaining and exciting as #&!! but they did have more commercials than FOX.

katapiller already said she didn't watch the whole race and what she saw was boring. the first part was boring, nothing much going on. And the announcers didn't help.
She has not seen the whole race and was only commenting on what she saw.

I have to agree with everyone here. It mad me very angry when they would go to a commerical break out of no where. I mean they would be announcing and BOOM ! commecial. The racing action however was very excited....I'm glad Kurt spun Skinner, Skinner was way to crazy, pulling moves he shoundn't of done. Ohh well....What am I going to do? I'm very happy for Jr. though..What a way to go!

It's odd...I re-watched the race last night and there are WAY more commercial breaks on NBC but the breaks are not near as long as FOX or ESPN or etc. I guess in the end it was probably pretty even with commercial time. I've never really been one to mind the commercials much though, after all it's free tv and they gotta pay the bills somehow. If I was watching pay-per-view racing and had ads, I'd be really ticked!!

I taped TNT's replay, but I don't know how it would compare commercial wise. Though from what I stayed up to watch, it looked about the same.
I read somewhere, that for like every 5-7 laps there was a commercial. And you figure that a commercial segment can last 2-2 1/2 minutes for each segment. GEESH!
But, considering that this was a prime time race, with tons of exposure they probably had to pay the bills somehow. Now, lets see how they are with a regular Sunday telecast.

Take it from someone who works in Television, the main reason for some many commercials was because they couldn't keep their signal up, they had a lot of technical difficulties which made them look very bad.
Let's give them a chance though, it's only the first race.
This group doesn't seem as biased towards certain drivers, but the Fox team seems to have more fun.
The one positive I liked, they discussed, and followed drivers that
usually never got mentioned at ALL by FOX. NBC didn't stick with disccussing the top names only, I commend them for that!

OK, its been 4 races. At Pocono there was 8, yes 8, commercial breaks between laps 120 and 131! Not to mention the rest of the race. I am so thankful that I was watching it on tape.

After watching the Busch races with Wally and Allen, I have to say, I miss Allen soooo much in the booth! And to think Speed is replacing him with Dave Despain of all people on Inside Nextel Cup. Awful, just awful.
I hope y'all will sign my bring Allen back petition! http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/bestwick

Dave's okay, but he isn't a fan of France or Nascar so I can't see him toeing the company line.

only four years old. and people responded like it was new. I guess it doesn't matter how many years go by, we'll always be complaining about nbc's coverage. lol.

Not that guy on Inside Nextel Cup! Man, he is gonna be like a wet blanket. What next? Making Jimmie Spencer a regular. Inside is the show I am missing the most, being deployed to Cuba. Yep, cable but no SpeedVision. I'm suffering withdrawals. :frown:
As for the National Broadcasters of Commercials, during the Indy race, all the guys in the booth would talk about something that a driver would probably end up doing, then when it happened, Bill Webber would anounce it like it was a surprise. Like he was just waking up or something. He did it at least twice. What's with that guy?
