There are reports that they may sponsor Shawna next year in the cup series.

Hmmmmmm, so it's okay to have this sponsor but not a men's magazine or a hard liquor company. Does anyone find this odd?

Nascar says they want to maintain a family atmosphere. Oh yeah, have they actually seen some of them commercials?

I can see a commercial with Shawna and that company....

Nothing comes between me and my firesuit except Victoria's Secret.

Puhlease.

DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH THIS!

Ya know...I always said, "well at least us women still have our Nascar."......I guess we soon won't have that anymore either.

Oh well.......Huh?!?!?

Victoria's Secret help's many family relationships :D ...actually, it's just underwear, it does not exploit women.

Playboy exploits women and is not designed for married folks....that's the way I see it.

Would it matter to you if there were a Fruit of the Loom or Haynes car? How 'bout all them Wrangler commercials sticking mens butts in your face?? What's the difference in that?

I realize Playboy exploits women, and yes I would have a problem seeing that sponsor on a car as well.

And I know Victoria's Secret is just underwear, but the thing is Nascar has their priorities a little twisted.

They say they want a family atmosphere, but the commercials (and from what I hear the catalog--never seen one, don't know), show women in skimpy undergarments. Is this what they want children to see? At the mall, the VS store is right next to the Disney store. Oh yeah, children can see this stuff as they go in to by the latest Mickey Mouse doll. (I know, has nothing to do with Nascar).

I think all the underwear commercials are pretty stupid in my opinion. Call me a prude, I don't care but if they are gonna have a sponsor that shows women in skimpy attire, parading around in next to nothing, then why not a sponsor where women wear nothing?

But then again, Hooters was a sponsor at one time. Women in tight shirt and shorts and push up bras. Hmmmmmmm, guess there really is no difference.

I guess I just have a problem with Nascars selective sponsoring. Playboy exploits women, I do agree with that, but some say so do the VS catalogs and commercials. Because they are done "tastefully' and feature supermodels, that makes it ok? Naaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.

One other thing,

What about the TV guide controversy when they didn't want Sable on the car of Kevin Lepage because it was just too suggestive?

What's the difference between what she was wearing and what VS sells?

I think the difference is that most women buy VS attire to wear for their husbands, not to parade down Main Street or to get their picture in a gentlemans magazine for men to get their thrills off of.

...I do NOT, however, see why NASCAR will allow beer and especially tobacco (the worst drug in the world) sponsorships and not Crown Royal liquor...

I do see your point, but I guess with me, I just think they are the same thing (men's magazine's and VS), when they are really different.

And I do agree with you about Crown Royal. That's just plain silly. They can have beer and tobacco, but hard liquor is a no-no? Go figure.

Ya know SwampFox....I do agree with you.....as much as I agree with Rumor on this very same thing...You're both right. It all depends I guess on each different person's opinion.
Apparently Rumor feels as strongly as I do about this sort of stuff.
Quite frankly, I get tired of half naked/naked women being thrown in my face everywhere I look.
These days I can't even watch a movie with my husband without having to watch totally naked women parading around or having sex. For someone who has beliefs such as I do, that is a very uncomfortable thing to go through.... though I do realize that has nothing to do with Nascar but with them doing this now, it makes me think that sooner or later it'll be just like everything else...Do you understand what I mean? And you're right....it's just like Wrangler sticking men's butts in our faces....but beleive it or not....I am totally opposed to that too. Trackrat will tell ya.....he knows better than anyone how against ALL of that kind of stuff I am...Men or women....don't matter...the ONLY person I want to see naked/half naked is my husband.....and I certainly don't enjoy my husband looking at another woman without clothes on.
Now most people would say, "well then don't watch it"...but I don't want to 'not watch' nascar! I want to continue to watch racing.
I dunno...I guess it's just me.

I do know where y'all are coming from...
If the Victoria's Secret car came out with a picture of a woman in her underwear on the hood, I would definatly be against it...or if the races were inundated with VS commercials...there is absolutley no reason to advertise like that when we all know what that store sells. :p

I do not see anything wrong with the company sponsoring a race team, however...considering that probably half of NASCAR fans are women, what better way to boost business?

I have been thinking about this from your view SwampFox....and I have come to this conclusion...
You are right and I'm an idiot! :)
seriously, I do agree with the fact that them sponsering a race is nothing. I should be happy that Nascar has another sponser throwing money in!

HEY....I see you were a winner over in V. T....did ya claim your prize?....what did ya get?

Hey! Don't get down on yourself for having a different (and valid) veiwpoint! You don't sound like an idiot Karen!

NASCAR hasn't had a woman in a Cup race in ump-teen years I don't know...since Pattie Moise...now Shawna is racing and planning on running a full schedule next year. News comes out that a women's (skimpy) underwear company wants to sponsor her...I can see why that would make you mad.

....but like you said, their money is as green as Quaker State's! If they want to pay the bills, I don't think Shawna should turn that down...that is unless they want her to sign autographs in a g-string ;)

I won another stupid koozie. It' great to win, but now I must find someone else that wants a free koozie ;) That was my first win of this year!! I was hot last year winning 2 VT t-shirts, about 3 koozies, a racing comic book, and a die-cast Earnhardt key chain...and got entered to win Bristol tickets TWICE!

The koozies are not that stupid, they have the VT logo on them which is cool...I like to advertise for their site, it's a great racing game.

COOL!
Congratulations...and hey, coozies are cool too ;)
they make great gifts for race fans...especially if you can get them autographed! I have done that a few times...you'd be surprised at how grateful people are for it.
I use all of our coozies....usually when we go to the track....better than holding a cold can.

Lets put it this way. As long as the car is tastefully done then I don't see where the harm is. I don't believe there sould be a lady lying on the hood scantly clad.

Just my opinion for what its worth.

 Couple years back wasn't there a gal who drove BGN or Trucks with Loveable Bras as a sponsor? Just said Loveable on the hood?

Swampy,

I got a can coolie too. Wayyyyyyy back at the beginning of the year. It's setting here on the desk collecting spare change--someone keeps taking it though. :( :( :p

Labontebrothersfan, that was Tammy Jo Kirk that you are thinking of. She raced in the truck series with Lovable Bra's as the sponsor.

And there was a female Dash (back than sportsman series) driver who was sponsored by Trojan. (can't say more we have a young'un on the board. ;) )
