Several have tried & failed. He did it before & is going to try again.
Tony Stewart - Indy 500 & Coca-Cola 600 all in the same day.
Crazy or Sane?
:gone:
It's gonna take a lot of planning, timing and strength.
Should drivers be allowed to do this - or is it dangerous?

Isn't the Coca-Cola 600 starting earlier than it did in the past?

:walk:
Yep it's about 30 monutes earlier
will make it VERY tight if Indy has ANY delays!
One more reason it's NUTS!

It's starting a 1/2 hour earlier, so it's going to be a little tough.
But, the last time he did it, they did have some rain so it's a tight schedule but I think he can do it.
Providing there aren't any wrecks, or anything too serious which causes a lengthy delay, I think he'll be fine.

If he doesn't win either race, I would love to see him complete every lap in both races. Not only because that would be just too cool, but because of all the money that will go to Kyle and Pattie Petty's charity. :)

I like the charity thing. But I think it puts the other drivers at risk, Tony is going to be really tired, and not at his best.

when he did this two years ago, he was not at his best, and got worn out. Otherwise, he may have finished better in the 600. But a top 10 is nothing to sneeze at.
This year, he has a trainer and a dietician to get him on the right foods to help him through this. Plus, on the plane to Charlotte, he'll have a doctor to administer IV's if he needs them, so he is ready to compete.
The only thing I dread is if he does go out for whatever reason at Charlotte, people will blame it on this deal, which will probably be unfair to him.

I just hope he can do it again, with out hurting himself or someone else.

Well I guess I have to take back EVERYTHING I said About Tony being nuts! :p
He got out of the car looking great. Like he'd been out for a Sunday drive.
Started 43rd , spun & finished 2nd.
He said it all - total training.
Great Job Tony!!!

Yep!!!! He certainly did!!!! :flame: :flame:
I believe if there really was a sprint car race going on at the track on Sunday, he would have gone right over there too.
And just think of all the money he raised for that good cause!

I was going to vote: "He probably shouldn't - but don't rule it out" but it's showing the vote totals, instead of giving me the option to vote. No biggie!
Anyways, I think since he is still quite young, so perhaps it doesn't affect him like it might some of the older drivers. I think it could be dangerous, because physically and mentally, he probably wouldn't be as alert as he would be normally. He might not react to a dangerous situation as fast?
I'm really not sure what the strains are on a racer's body and mind. But, from what I've seen when some of the driver's finish a long race, they look wiped out. I don't think it affects his ability to race... (since he almost won) but I'm not at all sure if it doesn't have some impact on the overall safety of all of the drivers. I know some of the older drivers couldn't pull it off, without seriously jeapordizing safety. Since Stewart seems to be able to handle it, maybe it shouldn't be ruled out. Then again... what if we find out the hard way, that it DOES take too much of a toll on driver's reflexes?
Nothing like having a firm opinion!! :D
