Okay, here goes my thoughts, like them or not. And please keep in mind it has nothing to do with the winner. And many of you know how I feel about him.
The Open and the 16 lapper were pretty good. THe drivers were actually racing and trying to get into the race. Congrats to Johnny and Todd on their wins. I expect Johnny to win a points race soon!
Now onto the Winston...
I liked how they introduced the pit crews, but did we have to keep hearing the loop, "we will rock you?" At least change songs or something!
First segment. DW, et al, were constantly saying how this race was 'for the fans,' Okay, this fan was not impressed. So they throw the green flag and cars wreck because of moisture on the track. Now the track is big so it could be raining at one end and not the other but still, there are officials, crew members, spotters, not to mention the drivers all over that track. NO ONE SAW RAINDROPS!!!!!! Surely someone did. So, several cars get damaged pretty bad. Nascar decides to throw away the rule book and let these drivers go into their backup cars. After all the race is, 'for the fans.' Some drivers liked the idea, I wonder what they think now. HA HA HA
Now the track is dry but some cars are not through tech yet. Makes you wonder how many would not have passed if Nascar did all the tech stuff. hehehe. So they start at the back.
Tony, who is in his regular position, comes in to get his antenna put on. Nascar says this is a regular pitstop you go back to the pack. Some announcers said cause he went through tech, though he changed nothing. WHAT THE HECK??? Why didn't an official tell them this before he went out. He was on the track for a lap or two, then they tell him that. They were throwing out the rules anyway, but after all its, "for the fans.'
So then Mayfield wins the first segment, Tony the second. Cars come in for their pit for the final segment. Rusty and Jeremy are caught speeding. (Oh yeah, I don't care much for Rusty and can't stand Mayfield). I saw other cars speeding, but Nascar decided to enforce a rule and send them back. Hmmmmmm. But remember the race is, 'for the fans.'
I don't know, this was the most boring Winston ever. Drivers didn't seem to want to do anything, nothing like the past. Were they afraid or what? I just don't know.
As for the coverage. I am tired of those Son of the Beach and The Test commercials. GEESH, they were annoying.
And one problem I have. I know they are concerned about safety, but does DW have to shove the HANS device down our throat? I mean other drivers used other safety measures, but we don't hear about them. And from what I hear they work as well, maybe better than the HANS. But that's all they talk about. Also, DW needs to get over the JG lovefest. 20 other drivers out there, and for the most part it was JG this and JG that. And I heard other JG fans think DW was overdoing it a bit. And I thought Benny Parsons was bad.
I can't believe I stayed awake and taped all but the winners interview. Good thing I can tape over the race. hehehehehe ;););)
