Looks like DiFarren and Brack were chosen for this year's International Race Of Champions series. This means no Mark Martin or Jeff Gordon. Now I can understand not inviting Dale Jr. back, as he is no longer the reigning Busch champ, but to leave out a 4 time IROC champ and a 3 time Winston Cup champion just does not seem right to me...maybe they were invited but didn't accept, does anyone know?
The drivers for this series are chosen by the IROC Organizers. They take into consideration drivers who have won major championships and/or races from several different racing series. I believe they should have guidelines, however, on driver selection. I would say to invite the previous year's champions from NASCAR Cup, CART, IRL, Previous year's rookie of the year from each of these series, and 2 past champions from each series...of course this would also mean that Martin would not compete, but he is not a NASCAR WC champion, so I guess that's a different story...Maybe invite the past year's IROC champ, throw in Grand Prix, past IROC Champs, Busch, Trucks, Sprints?? ....maybe the way they do it now ain't so bad after all!! :D
