I enjoyed this race! :)
Mark Martin and Jeff Burton ran side by side right behind Park. Despite getting loose on the track, Steve held onto the lead. After regaining control and settling down, he was able to once again pull away. By this point in the race, Steve led enough laps to clinch the $10,000 bonus for the first time in his Winston Cup career.
With just 10 laps to go, it looked like Park's race, but as the laps passed by Mark Martin drew closer in behind Park. With four laps remaining, Martin took a look around Park, making him drive too hard in the corners. Steve had the lapped car of Rusty Wallace in front of him while trying to hold off Martin, but Wallace steered clear of the approaching leaders.
"They told me Martin was coming pretty hard and I was trying not to burn the brakes and tires off of it so I would have something for the last lap or the last two laps," Park explained after the race.
Although Martin never gave up, Park was able to continually dive in front of him and stay out in front. He took the checkered flag 2 hours 24 minutes and 51 seconds into the race for his first Winston Cup Victory. Steve's margin of victory was 4.229 seconds with an average speed of 91.336 mph. After the race Steve said, "to beat Jeff Burton and Mark Martin on a road course is an astounding feat. I never thought my first win would be on a road course."
After taking a lap around the track, Steve drove the Pennzoil Monte Carlo to the start-finish line and jumped on top of the car with his arms in the air, waving to his home crowd. He then drove the car into victory lane where he was greeted by the entire Pennzoil Crew. The team embraced their much deserved win and soaked up all the attention of the media.

Coca Cola 600 win by Matt Kenseth. Not only because he's my favorite driver but because this race considered by most
drivers to be the toughest race to win (day and night race-
track changes almost every 1oo laps)Also because he had to beat out the 2000 champion to get his first WC victory. I mean no rookie has every won the 600, so that was very special to watch.
Outside of personal opinions, I think Jerry's first win was great as well.,
